What is the measure for Productivity

Can some body tell me advantages /dis advantages of

KLOC as a measure - Kilo Lines Of Code as a measure for productivity 100 lines every day for e.g.

    Or Function Points 2FP every.

Ideally FP is a choice of all. but

Can somebody throw light on discussing disadvantage of KLOC

Re: What is the measure for Productivity

My reflection about this is shortly that a development process include many things such as requirement analysis, high- and low-level design, coding and unit tests and system tests.
The coding part is only a small part of this and the better the work is performed before coding begin, the faster it will be done.
Trying to measure productivity in this way is just crazy. A really complicated product demands much more of analysis and design before the coding work can start. It does not necessarily means that much more code lines is produced.
Companies might also have very different kind of objectives in the development. Some of them demands very short time-to-market while other focus on quality. You can't compare the productivity by KLOC/day.
Besides, if you don't know how many lines of code that will be produced, how can you estimate a reasonable goal (e.g 1 KLOC/day) that makes your time schedule succeed.

    Best regards Björn
