QA & Beyond: What are my career options?
I just discovered that my job position will be eliminated in 2016 and moved offshore. This happened at my last job as well. In an effort to get out of the grind of corporate IT, I'm beginning to wonder if there are other areas of work available to me. This is my 20th year of working in corporate R&D/software development. My expertise has been more in QA leadership, process & compliance. Earlier in my career, I was focused more test automation, but has been absent over the past 5 years. I've thought about moving towards QA training / process improvement as a 3rd party to other companies since most of the companies I have worked with are still struggling with process & standardization. Here's a snippet from my resume:
• Test Tool Development
• Test Planning & Coverage
• Status Tracking & Reporting
• Defect Management
• Mentor & Lead Junior Testers
• Regression Testing
• Technical Writing
• Testing Process Standardization
• Test Case Development
• Business Requirements Review
Any thoughts on this? Curious to know what the group's thoughts might be with my given skill set and my options outside of corporate R&D/software development.
For 35 years I keep thinking I wont find work and that it is my last assignment. I think of the new people coming out of school and how much more up to date they are. I consider going down new paths and I feel that things will keep getting worse.
But the companies have information that we do not. They have projects and work available for people just like us that we do not know about. We show up on an interview and realize that we know 60% of what they are talking about. They are happy to get 30%. Then we are in business again.
My thought is that your background looks great.
Keep learning material in a way that you enjoy.
I hope this was of use.
