Please check if Im doing it the right way? - Test Scenarios - Test case
I had a technical exam from different companies and both were the same question. Funny thing is in company A i passed in company B i failed the exam. I'm sure i had the same answers for the question.
By the way I'm a newbie in this field and my way of answering is quite based on what i have read and not from experience so please feel free to correct and provide feedback. It would be greatly appreciated
Here below is the question and the answers I provided
Question: Create TEST SCENARIOS for testing an elevator
Verify elevator goes up
Verify user is able to go to top floor from basement
Verify user is able to go to top floor from ground floor
Verify user is able to go to any middle floor section from ground floor
Verify user is able to go to top floor from any middle floor
Verify parked elevator on any lower floor goes up when user calls elevator from any upper floor
Verify elevator goes down
Verify user is able to go to basement from ground floor
Verify user is able to go to basement from any middle floor section
Verify user is able to go to basement from top floor
Verify user is able to go to ground floor from top floor
Verify user is able to go to ground floor from any middle floor section
Verify parked elevator on any upper floor goes down when user calls elevator from any lower floor
Verify elevator is safe
Verify elevator alarms if overloaded and is more then passenger limit
Verify elevator doors open when open door button is pressed
Verify elevator doors close when close door button is pressed
Verify elevator doors open when sensor detect user in between pathway
Verify elevator is in sync with floor display panel
Verify elevator floor indicated in floor display panel is the same with the floor where elevator is located
Am I wrong with the way i made high level scenarios and low level test cases?
Or is my approach to answering the question incorrect?
The exam asked for TEST SCENARIOS, should i have not indicated test cases and just maintained the high level scenarios?
Thank you very much!
I have noticed many views and no one has answered. I am not sure if i have violated any rules?
I am not asking for answers to the question, if you notice i just need feedback like if my english was complexed for test case writing?
What really confused me here is they are asking test scenarios - which i know are high level scenarios. But some mistake those as test cases! So to stay safe i give high level and low level stuff. So now i need to know if im answering this the right way or not? Did i post in the wrong section?
I just need feedback, because if i would be answering test scenario test case exams like th way i do over and over again without knowing if i am doing it wrong or right, how would i improve?
Again like what i said, in company a it passed but maybe they took considerations to letting me pass, and company b failed the exam bec i was doing it wrong. So now i need to know, any improvements that can be made.
Thanks much and more power to the site!
My thoughts on this is there is no right answer. You can be totally smarter than the interviewer and still not get the job. The right answer in the end is what the interviewers are looking for.
My advice is this,
1) First try to do as much as you can to find out for them what they are looking for, clarify any thing you can until everything is crystal clear.
2) Sell them on your point of view, and why you gave your answers, and be able to explain it.
Seems like a pretty reasonable answer to me, especially for someone without a significant body of experience. Difficult to understand why company B failed you.
Have you tried asking company B for feedback?
Some things I see you could be missing are:
Test Goes Up - What about travel between floors (not just basement, ground or top) -- like floor 5 to floor 9
Test Goes Down - same as above
Safety - the doors should not open if the elevator is between floors
Otherwise I agree with dlai - try to find out what they were looking for to give some insight.

2. both company a and company b had the same setup. Application exam first before getting to next stage which is the hiring manage interview.
Thanks dlai for the input and taking extra time to help out!
By the way did my test scenario and test case writing okay from general point of view, i mean the way i presented it?
Too me the question sounds strange for a screening question. Normally those are setup with very specific details necessary to make an informed decision.
This sort of sounds like one of those vague questions I'd ask a mid level applicant at a face to face interview in order to gauge how well they make the effort to understand the requirement before proceeding.
