University Student, Software Testing Tools Survey
I am a student at Staffordshire University completing an IT Degree. For one of my units, I have to answer this question; What testing tools are on the market? What are the advantages and disadvantages of these tools?
I have been able to distinguish two categories of testing tools, Open Source and Commercial. However I have a problem, Commercial tools are unavailable or too expensive. Therefore I cannot draw any conclusions on my own. To over come this I have been gathering information from different companies about what tools they use for testing. What advantages and disadvantages they find by using it every day and what are the main features of there testing tool.
Could I please take 2 minutes of your time to answer this survey? https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Q7B7JQM
Thank you. Your support will considerably help my research.
Please pass this survey to other companies that might help with my question.
I think it would be good if you posted a terms and conditions. You are asking for some proprietary knowledge that we may not want our competitors to know (one of those cover our a$$ corporate policies). For example, I may not want our competitors to know exactly what tool I'm using, but might be OK to know what the satisfaction between tools amount a large sampling without any company info linked to it.
Some things I think you might want to explain,
1) How will this data be used. What parts of it are published, what parts are retained. I might be worried if say an article saying company X uses tool Y, where company X may have special dealings with tool Y vendor that is not public. (like special discounts and deals). For example, many will say QTP is expensive, while in large corporations that get volume discounts it's actually much cheaper. But these corporations don't want each other to know about their dealings because some have negotiated better deals, and use that as a competitive advantage.
2) What security measures will be used to keep the data safe. Like the above point, there are some things companies like to keep secret. If the data collected is sitting out on an unsecured cloud server, some people might be anxious.
3) Where will this data be published. And how is the publication distributed. What is the scope of how this study will be used? Some people might have issues you say those testimonial or quotes from responses you gathered was used in a advertisement for one tool vendor or another.
