Need Help on selecting suitable Performance Testing Tool for our web app
Following are a list of performance testing asked from our client. Can you please suggest good tools that can be used to measure and test the time taken for the following actions. Thank you
Screen Navigation: field-to-field < 10 milliseconds
Screen Navigation: screen-to-screen < 5 seconds
Screen Refresh < 3 seconds
Screen list box, combo box < 3 seconds
Screen grid – 25 rows, 10 columns < 5 seconds
Simple enquiry – single table, 5 fields, 3
conditions – without screen rendering < 5 seconds for 100,000 rows
Server side validations/ computations < 10 milliseconds
Client side validations/ computations < 1 millisecond
Batch processing (if any) per 100 records < 120 seconds
Login, authentication and verification < 3 seconds
You need to decide on which way to go based on opensource tool selection or paid tools. Actions above can be captured using both.
If you are choosing open source then Jmeter is the best tool.
If you are choosing paid tools then Loadrunner or Silk performer are best.

Most of those interactions look like client side. You may want to do application performance monitoring like gomez and setup transaction points, then run a battery of client side automated tests against it to get the results.
The screen rendering time is another beast. You may need to instrument some custom code for that.
