It's amazing how many emails I get from recruiters that ARE NOT for QA, even though my resume is all about QA. I got one for a Validation Engineer and the job description is nothing that I have ever done. Then I get a Configuration Release Manager, again, nothing in my wheel house. I know they are in a competitive field and need to reach out to folks, but they really need to send to qualified candidates. Happy Friday BTW!
Keep in mind recruiters themselves tend to be random and recent college grads who get into the business because they get a paying job and it's a way for them to get some work experience. Most of your bigger recruiting firms have a good mix of more experienced recruiters who truly enjoy doing what they are doing while there are also those less experienced who are there to just gain the experience and move on to something else.
Another point about recruiting agencies is they use software to snake keywords and use this to match their open req's with the resumes pulled up by the software. So it'snot a question of "can they read" but more to the point of "do they read" and often times, the answer is no. They work on commission and they just hit everything and everyone. These are the email lists I unsubscribe and fast.
Perhaps send them a resume from a friend in a totally different field such as botany or musical instrument playing to answer the e-mail. If they are being innaccurate, have some fun in reverese. If you do it nicely, they may remember you for future work that does match.
