Many moons ago I watched a training video on a pattern to use with automated testing. I'm trying to find it again.
The basic premise was that you would structure the code so that it could/would create an XML benchmark file by itself. What you would do is write the test up to create an instance of the object your testing, like pulling data from a database, then serializing that object out to an XML file. Then, when you run the test the next time it would compare the benchmark with what was retrieved from the database. It made the creation of the benchmarks a lot easier.
I think it was specific to Visual Studio unit testing but I'm not sure.
I'm pretty sure there was a configuration setting in an app.config file for controlling the generation of the benchmarks but I can't be positive.
We're having a get-together with the devs tomorrow about unit testing and I'd like to show them that pattern. Any help in finding it would be appreciated.
If you're a slave to your free associations, does it automatically become something else?
