I'm moving to Toronto Canada next month coming from Johannesburg South Africa. Apparently Canadian employers require you to have Canadian experience before they employ you. Anybody knows whether this is true or not? I have 7 years experience in Software Quality Assurance with a lot of experience in the banking and telecommunication sectors, especially with smart card (ICC data).
Any advice on what I should do to get a Job?
I can almost assure you that they do not require Canadian experience. We have multiple nationalities working at my present employer and some started here directly after moving from their home country.
I guess I should clarify; I am almost 100% sure that there is no law in place. And really, how would new graduates from Canada ever be able to work in Canada if they also didn't have Canadian business experience?
From the sounds of your experience you should have quite a few options...
Thank you guys for your feedback. I'm actively looking for a job in Toronto and in the surronding areas. Any advice in terms of placement agencies or what you guys usually do to get a software QA related jobs?
There are tons of placement agencies out there. I'd say just drop your resume around at a few different job sites and apply for a few positions and I'm sure you'll find that there is a pretty good percentage who are placement agencies. So if your resume is strong enough I'm sure you won't have any problem with an agency taking you on.
A popular one around here, I believe, is called Kelly? That might be completely wrong, but I seem to remember that for some reason, might be bad might be good, lol.
9 out of 10 people I prove wrong agree that I'm right. The other person is my wife.
