I need some advice, the company I work for recently purchased some HP – Mercury products (QC, QTP, and LR).
I’d like to roll them out in a phased approach starting with Quality Center, then QTP and so forth. Quality Center obviously being the foundation
The problem I’m running into is that several higher ranking individuals want access to install QTP before Quality Center and to be honest, I’m having trouble coming up with a plausible reasons why I shouldn’t let them.
Is there any benefit to letting one or two individuals install QTP before QC?
Depends... are you going to integrate the tools (QC, QTP, LR) and run everything through QC? If so then you have some pre-planning & structure definition you need to do. As part of this you will be using the Add-On's for QC to run QTP and LR.
Otherwise there isn't much reason other than you don't want them to go willy nilly off on a tangent build QTP scripts without using QC to act as your repository and test managment tool.
You need to come up with a formal Roll Out plan for them.
I'll bet that HP can offer a formal reason and documentation as to why QC before QTP is the most cost effective approach. Or contact a local distributor and see what they can suggest. I know I would put in QC first as it provides much of the framework for the test tools themselves. You could always use the "cart before the horse" analogy.
