    Re: Setting up test environment

Is this for manual or automated testing?

For manual testing, I'd try to install a virtual machine with the required setup if possible. This will allow you to reload the image, save machine snapshots, etc... that'll assist in speeding up configuration changes.

For automated, you want speed so initially you probably want to skip the virtual machine part until you really need to scale the tests. Figure out which automation software works with your application, figure out how you want to organize your scripts (best placed next to the source code for easy branching)

can you explain what you mean by "setup a new test environment"?

If you give detail about what you are trying to do, someone might actually be able to respond and help.

    Re: Setting up test environment

my task was to setup a test environment on one of our unix server.
we develop an application using JAVA its a web absed application
i need ot setup a MSSQL db and have a UAT and QA environments setup to start testing.
UAT should be close to production setup is what they said.
so even i am not sure where to start from
i know that we need to install apache/tomcat and do stuff but what i need is a detailed explanation on what needs to be done and what are the missing thinhs that i need to ask my manager to setup an environment.

Even if i can do the same on windows machine they are happy

    Re: Setting up test environment

It might be important. If you are in the learning stage, and your employer has asked you to do something well outside your capabilities, you might not be well served by seeking answers here. It might be better to address your concerns with your supervisor (even though that might be uncomfortable).

Evidently he/she thinks you already know how to set up the required test environment, or I presume you would not have been given the task.

That is not the impression you gave from your responses above.
