Our company has around 20 products which can be sold separately or in bundles with other products that integrate with eachother.
I'm responsible for testing that our different product versions work together and I'm looking for a good way to visualize to others (sales, customers etc) what versions of our different products that have been verified (by me) to work together. Are there specific tools that helps in doing this? I tried Excel of course but it gets hard to use after a while when multiple versions of all products exist. Would be good if there was a simple way to put in into a wiki or at least in a web page to share the information.
Let's say that the following products and versions exist:
- Product A has versions 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0
- Product B has versions 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7
- Product C has versions 2.0 and 2.1
Since some of the versions in one product is verified to work with one or several versions of the other products it's not that easy to visualize this clearly inside for example Excel.
My aim is that a person interested in for example Product A 1.1 could easily see in the comp. chart what versions of the other products have been verified to work with A 1.1.
Of course I/we could develop some internal tool for this but then again, this ought to be a quite common need and thus there might be good tools out there. Any tips/hints?
If you are using Office products a simple Access database would probably do the trick. You should be able to set up a structure so you can link each version of a product with the tested/known compatible versions of other products.
The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
One point that I might not have made clear enough is the ability to easily visualize this for others. We are using Confluence (Wiki) today for almost everything else so it would be nice to be able to access the chart from there if you are for example a sales person who would like to know what product versions would be applicable for a certain customer that already has one or more products.
And about the Access DB suggestion. Of course we could do it ourselves, which we might actually end up doing. I just wanted to know if there are dedicated products doing all this already, as there is usually a tool for most of our other daily objectives. I just never encountered one for this particular matter.
