Pros and cons of Stripping (Binaries).

    Hello all,
Hope this is the right forum. I did a search to try and find some info on the pros and cons of shipping a software product stripped vs unstripped. Trying to get some info, any would be great.

    Thank you

might as well strip them if you don't need any debugging info from the user. your binary will be smaller and possibly faster.

I once knew a stripper in New York...but that's another story.

    Sounds more like a limerick.

We keep debugging versions around, so if we do need info from a Customer we can have them put them in place for a time to get us what we need.

To the question, I tend to agree with Corey. Can't think of a negative impact, although I suspect could be one.

Re: Pros and cons of Stripping (Binaries).

Well to be more specific, if you wanted to change the mind of release engineering that are shipping unstripped, what would be your arguments?

    1.Smaller binary size.
    2.Less chance of being hacked.
    3.Better performance.

Re: Pros and cons of Stripping (Binaries).

on a unix/linux system, type: man strip

this will give you the manual for stripping binaries.

"strip discards all symbols from object files objfile. The list of object files may include archives."
