Work under pressure

Hi Friends,

I want to let you know my situation in my current project. We have the release on Aug. I have been working on the project for last one & half months without any leave/holiday.
We don't have proper plan for the project, mostly everyday we get a task to finish it within that day such as writing the test case and data keying-in.
And, every friday we get a mail for coming on the weekend. So now everyone is getting frustrated with such work environment.
Can anyone tell me how to cope up with this situation? Moreover, my project manager is also supporting the customer, not us.
If someone has experience of such kind of pressure, please share with us.
For two or three months it's ok, but how long we can do work without any leave/holiday.

Thanks
Deep R.

It happens. Get over it (or get a new job).

... join the military to give you a baseline to compare with.

You will find that your current conditions are rather luxurious.

As Peter says, "It happens!"

Is this an opportunity for you to step up and take an active lead toward making more progress, and thus replace frustration with the rewards associated with being a strong contributor?

Re: Work under pressure

Deadlines are tough and if the deadlines don't have any room for movement then this is what happens. This is, in general, the software industry.

By comparison, in the video game industry they can work up to 100 hours a week or more when a game is coming up for release, since it's being marketed for a very specific day. Just be glad you're not on that boat.

Re: Work under pressure

I did have a similar situation a few years ago. Every Friday my boss would ask who was free to come into work at the weekend. Unfortunately I was busy every weekend.

I updated my CV and started job hunting, found a new job fairly quickly. Told my boss in the exit interview that I'm not going to look back on my life and think "I wish I'd spent more time at work".

Re: Work under pressure

If this is the first project you have seen this happen, then it's likely somebody promised the delivery date without all the facts.

Been there - done that! As others have said - it happens.

If it is or starts happening with every project you are assigned to, then you have a completely different issue and either need to accept it or find another job.

Re: Work under pressure

Thanks friends,
I was really frustrated after doing a lot of work. But, as you told - it happens.

I am now glad, and feeling that I am not only person on the boat.

Cheers!!!
