retesting a previous tested program following the modifications made for that fault, and check whether the bug has been fixed.this type of testing is done concentrating over that fault alone, and not for the entire system need to be tested.
Regression testing is the process of testing changes to our system to make sure that the older functinality still works with the new changes. Regression testing is a normal part of the program development process and, in larger companies, is done by code testing specialists. Test department coders develop code test scenarios and exercises that will test new units of code after they have been written. These test cases form what becomes the test bucket. Before a new version of a software product is released, the old test cases are run against the new version to make sure that all the old capabilities still work. The reason they might not work is because changing or adding new code to a program can easily introduce errors into code that is not intended to be changed.
That is only regression needed. In Big companies where proper process are followed is a big deal of regression.
It should be for every project.
I hope you understand clearly.
Let me know if you have more confusion.
Preet - you have described what I would expect our development team to do, create new unit tests to excercise new code and run all the tests on the new build.
However regression testing that a tester does is the stage after that, they test the new functionality, most cases by excersising the application as a user would but not always the case, and then running through a pre-defined set of regression tests to prove the application still works. The regression tests may be a small part of the whole functionality or all the functioanlity, based on risk.
NO richard , my meaning was not that you understand.
I was telling first that why we require regression and from where it comes.
Development team also do changes on when they come to know about that regression is started.
Ofcourse our task is stated after they complete their work .Thanks for your information.
Actually Preet, I think Richard was correct with the challenge. There is nothing in the concept of Resgression testing that demands that it is done only by code specialists and not manually. The wording of your post implies that you generally understand the regression testing concept but it is unclear who you expect to do it, or how.
