Would appreciate some inputs from all of you w.r.t "Rules based testing" approach.
Basically, i am looking for a tool which when given a set of input data, operates on the data with a set of business rules an then generates test scenarios from it.
This method of testing, which purports to reduce the number of test cases needed to achieve significant(?) coverage is generally called Rules-based testing.
I just wanted to get a feel for how effective the tools available in the market are for this purpose (BenderRBT, i think is the leader).
And also, how effective is this method for code coverage?
Ideally, i would like my tool to take a snapshot of production data and based on the business rules create scenarios. Do you think there is a tool out there which does this??
I would think the advantage to this method would be very dependent on how well you define your business rules, which could be a significant effort in itself. You're essentially looking for the minimal permutation set that covers all legitimate inputs.
