# Thread: How to estimate tests cases X Use cases?

1. ## How to estimate tests cases X Use cases?

People:
Please, how I do to it esteem an amount standard of tests cases X use cases?.
there is a metric standard?.
I heard tell that the average belongs to two cases of for each existing tests scenario in the use case, is that fact?.
Would he have an example for this?.
For each existing scenario in the use case I could draw a scenario validates and a disable person.

testersqa, if you'd care to post in portuguese (just this once) I'll translate if for you. Then the moderator can clean up the thread.

Right now, we can only speculate what you mean in your post.

3. ## Re: How to esteem tests cases X Use cases?

I'm going to speculate that testersqa wants to know how to estimate the number of test cases required for each use case identified?

4. ## Re: How to esteem tests cases X Use cases?

Based on the speculation of corklad ( I must start speculating instead of assuming).

I have never found a standard where there is a specific number of test cases developed from a use case.

The test cases developed will be the number that is sufficient to ensure that the use case is covered and the the associated requirements are covered.

2 Test Cases per Use Case seems a low number to me but it would depend on the standards for creating Test Cases and the complexity of the Use case.

Sorry Lynne I could not let the opportunity pass on the ASSume post - forgive me oh mighty one!

6. ## Re: How to esteem tests cases X Use cases?

Small off topic hijack

I will forgive but not forget - as you sow so shall ye reap

I could also not resist on speculating - it doesn't have a nice idiom like [censored]-u-me but I took opportunity of a nice correlation.

7. ## Re: How to esteem tests cases X Use cases?

From a use case generally created test cases are 3 or more.
Atleast there should be 3 test cases. As such there is no formula its just assumption.

8. ## Re: How to esteem tests cases X Use cases?

I believe that the number of test cases would depend on the alternative flows identified in the use case and also the business rules if any.
