test harnesses - who should build
ok i read all wonderful postings in this forum about test harnesses. one thing no one indicated specifically is who should build those. talking to a couple of developers i know i was told that testers should never bother about the code. ao test harnesses would be always be built by developer. in our company we test web based application built using .NET. we do a lot of GUI testing the app using automated tools however we dont have any test harnesses built for doing code level testing rigorously. one thing iam not sure is whose responsibility is to develop test harnesses. i feel its the responsibility of the developers not testers. testers should never worry abt code but functional specifications. Has anyone come across testers doing test harnesses. if so why, if not why?
Re: test harnesses - who should build
The responsibility varies by organization, available skills, schedule, etc. Normally one would find harness-development for white/glass-box tests in the developer domain.
My own experience includes writing harnesses for developers to assist them with their own testing efforts, while I was part of the system testing team. I believe that to be an exception.
