I am a first time Poster to this board - Please be gentle with me.
Can any of you differentiate between Input Range Testing and BVA Testing - I'll give my understanding of BVA and hopefully someone can add in any specifics for Input Range...
BVA, for example calendar functions, we cannot possibly test every day of the year (365 Days) so we pick the extremes and problematic dates for our testing e.g Dec 31st, Jan 1st, Feb 29th etc..
Another example of this would be a Numeric Number fields Ė 6 digits in length say, we donít test all 999,999 values so again we select the extremes 000001 & 999999 and assume that everything in between is OK - obviously adding in Negative test cases for Alpha characters and 000000.
It seems that they are very similar if not the same. Also known as Boundary Testing. The testing of digits within the boundaries is not formally called boundary testing though, as boundary testing tests the limits, both Upper and Lower. So Input Range Testing would test the allowable range of inputs, not necessarily the boundaries.
What does BVA stand for? Could it be Boundary Value Analysis?
