they can, it depends, on the skills and competancies of the individual as well as other factors such as oppertunity.

    Gaurav,
Why would a tester want to be a project manager? I'm serious, why would you?

    Re: SQA Promotions

I've managed projects, and quite frankly, am much happier being a BA / QA.

    Re: SQA Promotions

    Yes,

As Neill stated it depends on your skills and other background. However it can be a big change especially if you manage projects to PMP standards. There are also far more people and "political" situations that you need to handle.

Some jobs I've personally seen filled by former testers include:
    - developer
    - application engineer
    - QA manager
    - QA director
    - vice president of engineering
    - product manager
    - project manager
    - documentation specialist
    - support specialist
    - trainer
    - backhoe operator
    - independent contractor
