Here is a sample test case for testing formatting of an editor.

    Test case ID: 1234
Test Description: verify bold formatting to the text
Function to be tested: Bold formatting to the text
    Environment: Win 2k/XP
    Test setup: N/A
    Test Execution:
    1. Open the Editor
    2. Open new document
    3. Type any text
    4. Select the text to make bold.
    5. Click Bold
Expected Result: Applies bold formatting to the selected text

    Actual Result: pass

Ahamad - In reality, each test execution step should have an expected result, because test scripts are very rarely as simple and granular as your example.

    Re: Test Case

    Hi Darrel,
I have one doubt here; If we have an expected result for each and every step, then it would become an use case, right?

Correct me if I am wrong.

    Re: Test Case

    Ahamad,
A use case is a very specific "flow" through an intended interaction between a "user role" actor and a system usually aimed at a business function or process, which has a transactional element or change in state. This is normally designed and expressed with UML. Though they can also be supported with text to show the main path and exception paths through the use case.
For more information on Use Cases the rational site is a good place to go.
