Its an Intranet Application. Like windows based application. You can open many windows in one window. If i close the original window Everthing in that window will be closed.
My error is when i am trying logoff from the main window. I will get message like do you want to close. If i Click yes. Then i getting "OBJECT REFERENCE NOT SET TO INSTANCE OF AN OBJECT" Error Message.
I spoke to developer. They are saying try to do same operations what ever you did before and show us.But the thing if i do same operations again also i am not getting again. Error will show up some other time. Developer also trying to figure out from his side.
If any body experienced this problem before.Just try to help me.
Firstly, log this defect with as much information as you can remember including screen shots and all the steps you think you have taken to produce the issue.
Ignore if you already --- these are called non-reproducible defects and can happen quite commonly in applications depending on the complexity.
From the data you have provided my assumption is this error may not be a generic error but application specific. The best you can do as I have mentioned earlier, log the error in the defect tracking system. Did the programmer look at any logs ?
Thanks for quick Reply..Sure i will keep this in tracker with screen shots.Developer is reviewing the code and he did some changes. I need to see again....Its really hard for me to find when exactly its happening.
It sounds like the object had already been destroyed, but the app was trying to destroy it on close. If you are logging off and then closing, it's possible that logging off destroys the object. If you are fast enough in choosing to close the app, the object might still exist (thus no error message.) If you wait a bit before telling it to close, you might get the error, as the log-off code has had a chance to run.
As PedroG suggested, seems the object is destroyed and logoff is trying to do it again. So the destruction of the object would have happened in another operation you did before logoff. Think of what operations you did when you got the error, it may not be the last operation you did before logoff, but an earlier one. You can ask the developer to check if they destroy this object anywhere else other than logoff. Some objects are destroyed automatically if there are no references to the object too.
Thanks Guys...I found the error. Now i can able to Stimulate that again.Basically what i did was i wrote all the actions i did in that applicationtion. After that i did one by on one action and keep logging off for each action.i was able to find the bug.
