Why regression test?
Can anybody tell me why exactly do we do regression testing, In our case when we come across any bug we just test for the regression value in the previous build and put the value in Bug report, what i wonder is the reason for this regression value, the exact use of it??? I guess my question is clear.
Thanks in advance
Re: Why regression test?
Regression testing is done to validate the other non-changed areas of functionality / code have not been impacted by either addition of new code (new functionality) or the changes related to defect fixes. You have to safeguard against the "ripple" affect, because sometimes changes in one part of the code can ripple over to others and cause a defect to be created.
Thus you need to do some cursory testing of existing functionality (width with some depth) to validate the system is alright. Regression testing is not just defect retesting.
