I have a question! What is Pre-Testing? I work for a Financial Company and we develop our own in house software. I work in the QA Department and my Supervisor keeps using the term Pre-Testing. In my 10 years of experience I have never heard the term. PLEASE HELP
He's probably refering to smoke-testing. Testing that is performed before the Test group officially accepts a build for testing.
Not a standard term - (S)he certainly could mean smoke testing. I could also see someone using it to mean testing the application before it reaches the official code-complete / hand-off to QA.
(At my company we talk a lot about pre-Alpha testing, where we know that the application is not yet complete, but certain modules may be ready to test).
It would be easier to guess what your boss means if you spell out the context that (S)he says it in.
