In your are running windows (NT/2000/XP) then yes perfmon is typically the best choice. Make sure you select "Process" and within process, select all available processes to monitor.
However, certain types of processes are very hard to monitor. For instance, you cannot monitor individual COM components by looking at perfmon. This is because the individual processes all run under the DLLHOST process and are so invisible.
