I just like to know how wise it is to use Ant and canoo tools for testing( SQA testing not developers). Does any one have idea if many companies( medium to big size) use ant and canoo in sqa team. Thanks
Never used Canoo, but I have used Ant in conjunction with JUnit, makes it pretty easy to get a Test Harness running with the two. Whether its wise or not depends on your environment, processes and the languages you are familiar with. As long as you can support the tools and they provide you value then its a good fit.
Thanks simon and michael. Do you think its good if developers write scripts in ant and canoo for testing and testers just provide scenarios and validate results provided by developers? just want to find opinions from testers outside my team. we are running short of time for testing quite complex system.
Well you can do it in conjunction with them, as you would when using Agile or Scrum processes, but unless you understand what the script is testing for and that its doing it correctly I wouldn't say you have verified the fix. As Lynne also points out, how do you know they wrote the script correctly? I'm more an advocate for letting Development do their Unit Tests and scripting, and letting QA have theirs.
Actually our application is tested before without 30% lack of requirements and the people who tested are not here anymore. Developers will write automated scripts and run it and provide results to testing for validation( if there are bugs as mentioned i did not thought of this and this is very good question). But as for as the script results we should get functionality from documents and since we are the one to provide scenarios to developers , we are supposed to know what should be results.
Its was nice feed back from you guys, we are not happy with the process, nothing to but go head with hope.
