Re: Which special characters should be allowed in the Form

In an alpha field I don't see any need to put restrictions on special characters, take my last name for instance O'Leary or companies legal name AT&T - you'd be amazed at the ways an end user can find a way to use a special character, so allow them all.

Which special characters should be allowed in the Form

Our company is making an ERP. Front-end is VB and Back-end is Oracle.

It is advisable to restrict certain special characters like singe quote, ampersand in the each form. How can we decide which special characters to restrict and which special characters to allow? Since the user can type any of special characters in the field.

Or we should allow all the special characters along with the alphabets if it is not causing any harm in fetching the data.

If anybody can suggest a strategy, it would be very helpful to us.

Re: Which special characters should be allowed in the Form

You should consider the use of the input data, the business requirements for each field:
    - if a certain data would be used as a pathname, there are some restrictions
    - also, for a machine name you have some limitations,...
    - for a comments fields ( lets say memo type) you may need no restrictions.

Too many restrictions would cause you problems, as corklad showed you.
