Effective Software Testing - the book

50 Specific Ways to Improve Your Testing
Author - Elfriede Dustin
(our own moderator of the Automated testing forum here on QAForums)

I am posting this as and 'ad' and as an 'aid' to functional testers.

The table of contents alone for this book reads like a checklist for software testers. (see it below)

Jeff Nyman (another of our own)has reviewed this book. If you're interested in what he has to say, take a peek at; http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...roduct-details

Re: Effective Software Testing - the book

Someone was talking about this book the other day, and it made me realize the upgrade must have turned off my 'topper' for the subject.

It's now re-topped.

As I said, the TOC alone for this book is a great tool. Then read the book

Re: Effective Software Testing - the book

I found this book as a must read for every tester. Whether he is a beginner or experienced.

It proves a valuable checklist(50 specific ways of testing) for me and added a lot of new things in my individual knowledge base.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">I am not sure I understand your question: "When it is begin?" Perhaps the book's section on requirements, item 1 "Involve testers from the beginning" is what you are looking or.

Regarding your question "how i tackle it" see item 2 in the book: "Verify Requirements" for a list of criteria to verify requirements.
This list is also summarized here

Re: Effective Software Testing - the book

Dear Mr Dustin,
first of all i advice every QA person to go through this book as i did.

my point is about requirements management process:

Item 1 in the book mention "testers need to be involved from the beginning of a project's life cycle so they can understand exactly what they are testig and can work with other stakeholders to create testable requirements"

and i say(behined my practical needs):
A-"testers" and i think it is a general description for any person who test the requirements document(maybe top management)and not specific for QA department guys as i read.
so i sked about what is my role as QA person in that?
B-"from the beginning of a project's life cycle "
i asked specificlly about requirements phase when QA role begin? and what is it?
C- "Testable requirements"
and i asked about how QA guys tackle thier role?in another words is just a matter of experience to determine that this requirement is testable or not?and is it the only role for QA department in this phase to assure that the requirements in the document are testable?

i need some advices from practicle point of view about the sequence of functions in the requirements process and highlighting the QA roles among the other stakeholders roles in this process.

thank u mr dustin
thank u all
