Repetitive Form filling - how to do so automatically
I need to test several article templates for a CMS; each involves populating form fields with test data each time. There are 6 templates of approx 15 fields each.
I need a simple way to re-populate each form with my test data each time at the click of a button or two, rather than the laborious task of entering each time. What would be the easiest way to do this? I've tried a few simple methods, each seems to throw up issues:
- Firefox Web developer toolbar -> Forms -> populate form fields
pre-populates with the html field name - doesn't allow me to use my own test data
fiddly and tricky to maintain
- Lastpass -> 'Fill forms' -
can't seem to accurately fill form data beyond about 7 form fields before it starts to repeat the first
Would a simple Selenium IDE (Firefox) script do the trick?
There are several free tools that will do what you are looking for, such as Selenium IDE or MonkeyTalkIDE. Both will allow you to use excel for data-driven 'testing' of your form.
I have used both QTP and RFT for filling up forms with varied sets of data, in case you are interested only in open source tools then selenium IDE will do.
