how to reduce time in testing in multiple devices?

My job is to test the mobile native application. If i find defect in one particular device(Say Samsung galaxy S) i have to go and check in all devices (Say Galaxy tab, Milestone etc.). Can you please suggest me some way in which i can reduce my time in testing in all devices. (But finally i should have tested in all devices and also time should be less. Need to consider a normal spped of execution not a super fast one..) Thanks in advance ...
Note: I Test in Hardware and also Consider that there is only one resource.

Re: how to reduce time in testing in multiple devices?

Divide the list of devices you support into groups within which your application performs identically. Initially, test using just one device in each group.

Test on every device only once you have a release candidate build (one with no known bugs) and are doing your final test pass.

To add to Joe's suggestion, as new build come out, change the device within the group you are testing.

So if in build 1 you test with device 1, in build 2 I'd suggest you test with a different device that behaves identically to device 1.

That way as you increase your regression testing you're less likely to get blindsided at the end when two "identical" devices don't behave identically. This approach will also appease your managers a bit more to know that while not every device is being tested with every build, each device is being tested as intermediary builds come out.

Re: how to reduce time in testing in multiple devices?

    Hi,

One way to reduce your devices is you can choose 1 small screen device, one medium and one large.

As far as OS is considered so you can make a probability of like one small screen with one version of OS, medium with other OS version.

Also you can test on WiFi and non WiFi devices which will also cover your major area of testing and your number of devices will also be reduced.

    Thanks and Best regards,

Re: how to reduce time in testing in multiple devices?

You can search for simulator softwares on internet which can simulate multiple devices.
for e.g We tested one of our applications for ipad & iphone using a simulator software available for Mac..

Re: how to reduce time in testing in multiple devices?

If you are testing on Mobile devices then it becomes easy.

If you visit sites like Nokia you would find that they have also done the same thing mentioning one device from each group which would validate that if your test passed in this and then it would work for all the other devices in the same group

Group your devices based on the chip-set and OS running on them.

Then pick one device from each group and your life is simplified.......
