# Thread: BVA and ECP - How many test case ?

1. ## BVA and ECP - How many test case ?

How many (maximum) test case we can write for the Boundary value analysis (BVA) and Eqillance Class partion (ECP)? give me any one example for both ?

2. ## Re: BVA and ECP - How many test case ?

There is no maximum. You can always add one more test case - no matter which techniques you are using.

Nirmal,
Sounds like a test or interview question, we do have a separate forum for those queries. If you post in the correct forum and be polite about your question, you might get some help.
Happy New Year Nirmal.

4. ## Re: BVA and ECP - How many test case ?

if there range of integers
1,2,3,4,5

Then BVA will be
0 and 6

and ECP will be
any value including 1 and 5

you may say 2 is ECP

But we can not be specific to numbers of test cases

For BVA I should think you would also want to include the actual boundary limits which are 0 & 5, and also 11 & 55, and even perhaps 1a & 5% to insure that only one digit, alphanumeric character, or extended character is valid or invalid. If you pare down the tests to much you might miss a big old bug!
So, Nirma4u, in answer to your question, there is no maximum number of tests if you are a conscientious tester. In fact there are never enough tests most of the time to prevent bugs from getting to the user. The only limit is the deadline for testing.

Thank you for response on my expalnation.

Actually i wanted to say that every thing other then 1 and 5 are out of boundaries. So if there are proper checks for data .

Then all values less then 1 and greater then 5 would be out of bound

I'm sorry, in my first sentence I meant to say: "the actual boundary limits which are 1 & 5". My Bad!

8. ## Re: BVA and ECP - How many test case ?

Hi Rich,

We are here to learn from each other.

One may be right and other may be slightly differ.

thank you

Software testing is a practice, not a science. We are all entitled to our own opinions. But there are a few ground rules and one of them is: don't take too many shortcuts or the results could be unsatisfactory. Another one is: learn the language of the company. Even if the majority of companies call a Test Plan the document which forecasts how an application is to be tested and includes the test cases to be run, and the schedule, etc. other companies may have a different name for it. Just know what the people you work with will understand.

I agree with you. This is all about practice. But one can not practice all the things at one time but he/she should know about these practices.

I think the topic is not what we are discussing
