Can anyone suggest some test cases to test log files? Basically - we have a service which creates a new log file on everyday whenever the first call hits the service on the day. I am looking for some test cases to test that log file creating and any error scenarios to consider like - create a log file when disk is full, append to log file when the size of log file reach to large size, say 5 GB. I am looking for more test cases like this to consider to test the log file.
I think that you've probably stated a great start for test cases here. I mean simply by describing what it is that you're testing, you've hit on a bunch of tests that you should be hitting. It's a matter of working with the obvious and expanding.
What are the requirements for the logging system? Have you spoken with anyone about how this is supposed to perform? I mean you can't extract any test cases if you don't know how large the log files are allowed to get, for instance.
The test cases should depend upon the real scenarios. Please consult the server guys or admin.
Few Scenarios i can suggest is :
1. N/w issues during creation of log file.
2. Server down or busy during log file creation.
3. try different logins with different privileges for log file creation.
4. Email to concern dept on failing.
