Each one of us have had to submit estimates for our testing work assigned and sometimes even asked to submit for the whole project
Each one of us follow our own individualtechinque based on past experiences but
I would like to know the best (scientific/non-scientific)technique/method for estimating time schedules for manual black box testing based on written SRS -requirements
What are the most commonly used techniques in each of our organizations
It would be nice if each of us could participate and contribute on this topic
We did some struggling in a project and tried different angles to planning. And nothing seemed to work.
Finally one person decided: "Well x number of requirements (detailed requirements, so 1 feature -> 1+ requirement per feature), 5 minutes per detailed requirement for planning, testcases, execution and reporting."
That gave a number that after the project came very close to the actual effort. After that next projects were easy in this organization, because they are all the same quantity.
The simple "5 minutes per requirement" looks more like pure luck though if I look at it :-). But anyways, maybe it is a good average when the requirements are already written out into detail?
