Test Planning and Strategy
We are working with a data warehouse project where we extract data from the source (ETL) and builds a Data Warehouse from a source system. Actually, the end users would query our cubes using their UI Cognos (powerplay for OLAP and ReportNet for pre defined reports). I need quality assurance test plan and I need to test the complete application. Is there any testing tool available which can be useful to my case and also a what would be the best strategy to test the application
Re: Test Planning and Strategy
I have worked on a similar project with the police. We utilised Toad to manipulate, and query our database system. Hence, Toad was mainly used for running SQL test scripts.
The test scripts were used to test the integrity of the data from Source- Staging- DataWarehouse.
Some of the simple SQL tests we commonly performed were record counts on primary keys/foreign keys, Character counts with the use of 'SubString' function, and mathematical operations on characters and numerics within different tables, coloumns.
The most useful test stage would be to process the database with ETL, and then perform modifications to the data. You must compare your expected outcomes to the actual outcomes after your modifications and should prove to be a decent test.
