The Master Test Plan provides a high-level overview of the testing effort from the Contractor's perspective and processes. (The project's perspective and processes are documented in the Test and Evaluation Plan.) The test approach and common processes should be described, and differences between testing phases should be identified. In addition, exit criteria and final acceptance criteria for the system may be documented (if not documented in the RFP/ITP or contract). This plan is optional.
Individual Test Plans for each test phase (e.g., Unit Test Plan, Integration Test Plan, etc.) are still required. This document is intended only to provide a high-level, contextual description to ensure the testing effort is comprehensive and complete.
If a Master Test Plan is not developed, the high-level approach to testing should be described in the contractor's Project Management Plan (PMP) or Software Development Plan (SDP).
