Testing Time Estimation for this scenario
Consider QA dept has only 4 resources to work for any project. Moreover they are already working in project.
Suppose new project coming in.....which is exactly same as the project which they are currently working on....but it's for different vendor....
We need to give our testing time for the new vendor, therefore my question is...how do we balance our existing project with new project to pack the resource.
Note : Existing project is in enhancement phase..but we can't say its under maintanance..becoz resources are packed with lots of change requirement/request. On the other hand we cant lose our new project and need to say the dead line...and one more thing we cant add new resource, if added possibly one... Scenario is same resource = 2 projects (Exis + New)
Any idea on this one ?
Re: Testing Time Estimation for this scenario
Since your new project is similar to the existing one, you are in a better position to estimate by making use of your previous experience and assess the possible risks.
Based on your estimation, you would know your possible team size. If your existing team along with a new team member can manage then it should be fine.
Otherwise, you should convey it clearly that if there are not enough resources, you will not be able to achieve your quality goals.
If you have lean period during that you can foresee, you can make use of your current team members to test the new application. However in maintenance mode itís very hard to predict the lean period.
Ideally the estimation should decide on the number of team members. Unfortunately we get into these kinda situations mostly working with smaller companies.
But once the money starts flowing in you would be in a better position to demand for new team members.
