Is there any excel based applications available for planning and tracking.
From a project management perspective, I would recommend Microsoft Project for tracking purposes. You can track the individual projects including resources and roll these up into a master project plan where you can see all of your resource usage.
You can create Excel templates for much of what you can do in Project but you will spend a lot of time assembling the data into a view that gives you the information you need while Project will do the heavy lifting for you.
