# Thread: How much hours a day of.

1. ## How much hours a day of.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to know how much working hours we count for a day. We have officially eight hours. But this is not a point..

For example say You have estimated that the work will take 24 hours then to convert it into days by how much you divides it. By your official time or less then that ???

2. ## Re: How much hours a day of.

24 hours is 2 days. So it will be 2 'Business' days.

If I take the two statements together, then I should be taking a painkiller for a migraine headache.

well... 24 hours is 2 days... if you just mention in your SLA as 2 days then it doesnt make sense. because 24 hours will be 8hours +2-3 hours extra effort (1 business day) and another 8hours +2-3 hours extra effort (2nd business day).

The word 'Business' represents the no.of working hours per day.

Most shops where I have worked (and where we were forced to use this sort of estimation method) had a "standard day".

It was always less than 8 hours, and depended on the company and sometimes the project and sometimes how much "other" work was expected of the individual.

I recall 7 hours being rather common.

But I also recall folks that had responsibility for more than one project, and the arguments over which project got "4 hours per day" versus "3 hours per day" allocated to them.

Hi Gaurang,

Generally, we consider 40 hrs per week [5 working days][160 Hrs a month]. So that comes to 8 hrs per day.

In your case, a task of 24 hrs will take 3 working days [8 * 3 = 24].

Check out http://www.joyride-shuttle.com/disclaimer.aspx for a free web based estimation tool based on SPR guidelines.

Hope this info resolves ur query.

cheers.

How many hours per week are people working in your shop?

I have to give an estimate. I have made it and find out how much hours it will take. Now I need to convert it into days and have to give the date on which we can release the software..

Now I am thinking to convert into days I should divide it by 8 ( our official hours ) or By 7(Cause not all the time you are working when you are in the office , And I guess that will be the correct productive hours )
