Testing OLAP reports
my company hired a contractor company to produce OLAP reports that will be delivered to the Executives.
I spoke to the guy in the contracting company and these OLAP reports (Based on Oracle 10g) will be applications that can be used by the Execs to query data from a datawharehouse that the contractor will build and maintain (daily updates from our production servers).
I've been asked to estimate the test effort required for this kind of testing. They basically want me to verify that the data produced by the report is correct. Now our system is pretty complex (based on Siebel Weblogic on Oracle) and to be honest creating complex queries for each field of the report to verify the values seems to me too time consuming and also a bit out of reach of my System Analysts team but I cannot see a different alternative . Did you guys work on something like this before? Any articles or books to read for this topic? Any hints/suggestions would be strongly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Re: Testing OLAP reports
Based upon the information you provided Augusto, I think you are challenged with writing independent queries. Have I done this before? Yes.
Look this over for a bit more detail.
