Re: How do u estimate time for test case preparati
This is the common problem that I think all the testers face. There can be number of approaches to estimate the time required for testing.
The approach that is followed in our team is that we go through the requirement documents quickly, identifying most of the P1 and P2 scenarios. Now depending on the complexity of the test script that needs to be written for the scenario we come out with the rough estimate. Add to this 2 or 3 days for the scenarios that have not been identified plus the time for UAT test support. This will give you the estimated time for testing e.g. if you had identified that for testing a functionality, you need to write 10 P1 and 15 P2 scripts and taking the time taken to write a script on average as 4 hours, the rough estimate would be 10*4 + 15*4 = 100 hours or 12.5 person days. Now add to this 3 days as contigency margin. So the estimate will be 15.5 days.
The time required for UAT test support will be different from this and will depend on the number of defects raised in UAT.
