QA time through the SDLC
Where can I find some statistics about what is the exact percentage the QA process should be from the Development effort in any given project through the SDLC(Software Development Life Cycle), is it 30%, 40%...etc. Taking into consideration that it is not testing, it pass through the whole cycle of SDLC (Analysis, Planning, Design, Testing and Maintainence)?
The reason is the Time Esitmation for the QA vs. Development at any given project.
Re: QA time through the SDLC
You can search a Tower42's post (07-19-2000) called "QA Work Load", in this same section. In there you'll have some answers.
Just for give you a quick response, the following is my stats overview:
. QA-Small Project: less than 2% of total effort.
. QA-Medium/Big: 2 to 3% of total effort.
QA is not Testing:
. System/Acceptance Testing effort: 7 to 20% of total effort.
. System/Acceptance Testing mean duration: 4 weeks.
. Stress Test duration: 5 to 7 weeks (time box).
Finally, QA activities impacts in QA effort estimation. First of all, you must to know wich QA activities you'll develop and who'll the participants. These activities may be permanent or by deriverables.
A trick? QA activities can be limited by time boxs.
I hope this help.
