Testing for a technology port
After lurking for a while, I have a question to ask. First off, the problem:
One of the latest projects I'm involved with is porting an existing application from its original format into a .Net language (with no change in functionality, etc).
The existing product has a manual test suite, which appears to be sufficient.
My first reaction was simple; it's an architectural change that could present a large technical risk. As such, we should aim for full execution of the regression suite (likely with a view to automating where suitable).
Now for the question; is my first reaction naive? Should we be looking to perform more or less testing than I've suggested?
Re: Testing for a technology port
Hope this helps to some extent, as a tester you need to check each and every functionality without keeping it in mind its only porting of application. I encountered more issues post porting.
