Thanx chandoo..but bugzilla can be installed at unix it seems and hard to work with windows..
so wats the next popular tool which can be used on windows...becos i wanted to learn well known bugtracking tool to convince the interviewers
For open source tools, you can go to http://opensourcetesting.com. You should find quite a few defect (bug) tracking solutions there, which you can try setting up and working with them. (Make sure if you use a performance testing tool, that you aren't performance testing someone elses box since it illegal and unethical)
We use Merant Tracker (formerly PVCS) for tracking and Merant CM for management. We originally had a homegrown Oracle based tracker which was constantly in maint. mode. We like Merant, although it does cost a few dollars. It serves our needs very well. It also integrates with TestDirector, which can be usefull in a Mercury shop.
