Defect Tracking Software Analysis
Has anyone ever published anything on evaluating the Defect Tracking Tools? Looking for inexpesnive but effective and managable solution just seeing if someone did a comparison from an IT software testing perspective?
Re: Defect Tracking Software Analysis
I never found anything like this. But maybe i can help you. What kind of Bug tracking Tool are you looking for? I had used at least 4 different tools.
Change Synergy ( Tele Logic )
Clear Quest ( IBM (Rationla))
Bugzilla (open source)
Excel ( MS )
the cheapest MS Excel, but it is for bug tracking only a bat alternative. You haven't any history of the bug, there is no administration etc.
Bugzilla is a very good tool, but you have do the administration and implementation of the Bug Livecycle by yourself. I don't know a company which offer service for Bugzilla like it is e.g. by Linux.
Clear Quest: It's a good tool, but I don't like it. So every user had to install a client. This is bad thing if your are testing in different places. My two penny worth: a Bug tracking tool must have a web user interface. So you or your CEO can take a look on your bugs from every where on the world.
Change Synergy: a very good tool, but expensive. Some of their consults had designed our lifecycle and they do the first administration. All together they was very skilled.
In my next project we will use Bugzilla, i think it's a good alternative when you have a technical skill and experience with bug-tracking, so that you don't need help by your life cycle or analyses and queries
Finaly there ist something to bear in mind. If you have a configuration tool like clear case (IBM) or continiuus (Tele Logic) its possible to interconnect bug-tracking and software configuration management. but this is only a small benefit.
