Importing Bugs from MSAccess?
Has anyone had to import bugs from MS Access into an actual bug tracking application before? Is this a tough task? If not, what are the steps? Use SED, AWK, PERL scripts?
Re: Importing Bugs from MSAccess?
Steve, a few questions for you:
-- Does the new bug tracking app support doing an "import" of bugs in some specified format? If so, you could write a simple VB or VBA app to dump out the MS Access data into the format your new app requires for input.
-- Does the new bug tracking app have a non-proprietary database such as SQL Server or Oracle? If so, and if it is also on Windows then you might try using VB and ADO to copy the data from MS Access directly into the new bug tracking app.
As for how difficult this is:
The complexity of the database schemas in the MS Access .mdb and the destination tracking system may be the biggest factor. If you can find a straight-forward mapping of the MS Access data fields into the new tracking system fields, (& if you can read/write directly to the new database), then it should be possible to move your bug data w/o too much effort.
