Rational versus PVCS
Does anyone have any experience of both Rational and PVCS configuration Management / Testing suites.
Our organisation currently use PVCS Version Manager (for version control), and Rational Robot (for automation) and we are looking at the possibilities of using the one of the following:
Option 1 (using PVCS and Rational suites)
Use PVCS Suite (for configuration management) PVCS Version Manager, PVCS Tracker and PVCS Configuration Builder (integrated)
Use Ration Suite (for test automation/management) – Rational Robot, Rational TestManager (integrated)
Option 2 (Using Rational Suite only)
Use Rational suite (for configuration management and test automation/management) Rational ClearCase, Rational ClearQuest, Rational Robot, Rational TestManager (integrated)
I suppose the main issues here are:
The transition from PVCS Version Manager to ClearCase
The preferred defect tracking tool, PVCS Tracker or ClearQuest
The integration functionality of the two different suites (PVCS and Rational)
Can anyone offer any comments or suggestions regarding the 2 options above.
Re: Rational versus PVCS
I came across PVCS recently as a bug tracking tool. Didn't like it, but that was what the client had.
I know you are looking for the best tool, but the way I'd look at it is to ask whether I can make a financial case for switching.
