I am currently evaluating load testing tools.
By budget is really tiny, especially when considering the price of load testing.
I would appreciate anybody's feedback and experience with testcomplete as a load testing tool.
I have used OpenSta and Loadrunner, so comparisons to those solutions would be great.
Unfortunately, I cannot compare to the other two applications. However, I can attest to TestComplete as a load testing tool. We recently rearchitectured our eCommerce application and needed to compare performance to our old solution. TestComplete DID help us with this immensely. We were able to design a load test that was scalable and allowed us to send customized loads to our server. The logs that TC provided pointed us to several architectural problems that we subsequently corrected.
As mentioned to someone in another post, TC has the same basic limitation of most load testing tools in that it is only aware of what it is transmitting and receiving. It does not monitor the actual server and web application itself. You will need to become well versed in measurement tools and techniques on your server box to be able to better correct and tweak your application. I became VERY familiar with W2k3 Server PerfMon and the various counters there in.
If you have specific questions, I'd be happy to answer as best as I can.
