Is TC right for me
I have worked with TC4 with my past employer, really liked it, and thinking about recommending it to my current employer, where i need to write a automated test script for a web application, which interacts with a gateway server using REST API calls. and displays the returned data on the web page accordingly. the web application are written in PHP, and i was wondering, is TC able to capture and replay all the underneath REST calls and actions underneath?
Re: Is TC right for me
As far as I understand, REST API calls are made via the HTTP protocol. TestComplete has the HTTP Load Testing feature that allows recording and playing back HTTP traffic. We have not checked this feature with REST API calls, so I cannot tell you how well TestComplete will work with them. Please see the 'Load, Stress and Scalability Testing' topic for information on this feature.
Please note that the HTTP Load Testing feature allows working with the web server directly via the HTTP protocol. The feature does not open a browser and display any actions over Web elements. If you want to perform functional testing of the application's GUI, you can use the Web Testing feature of TestComplete. It does not matter for this feature how the page in a browser was created. So, you will be able to work with your REST application in the same way as with any other web application. Please see the 'Web Testing' and 'Testing Web Pages With TestComplete' help topics for more information.
