Capturing onscreen text
I have previously used QArun and it had a tool that could capture text from the screen.
You selected the tool dragged over the text and it copied it (not an image like TC) like copy and pasting.
You could then save the value as a variable and run validation on it.
Does TC do this in anyway?
(I'm using TC3)
Re: Capturing onscreen text
TestComplete 4 has the OCR plug-in (Optical Character Recognition) that translates images into typewritten text. TestComplete 3 doesn't have this feature.
In TestComplete 3 you can try reading the control's text by using one of its properties. The property that should be used depends on the kind of control you are working with. For example, if you are working with a Win32 edit box, you can use the wText property to get the text displayed in it. Please refer to the "Working With Win32 Controls" help topic for more information about working with Win32 controls. If you are working with a non-standard control and your application is Open, you can use the control's native properties, fields and methods to get the text displayed in it.
You can use the Finder tool to catch the control and explore the available properties.
If the above information has not helped you solve your problem, please let me know what programming language is used to develop the tested application and which control you are working with.
