TC4 Locks up with IE?
I am using TC4's latest build (4.28), and we have been evaluating this tool for a little while now. I have received funding purchasing a few copies, but would like to figure out one of the issues which I have concern with; TC4 hanging up.
I have noticed through usage on IE browsers, that sometimes TC4 will react very slowly during record and playback. Often times, when this starts, it will lock up completely. I have tried waiting 5 to 10 minutes, without success; thus causing me to have to kill the process.
The IE window I am working with, usually has a lot of content or is a .Net application. My latest round of troubles, occured when I am viewing an XML file via the IE browser. If I try to simply go into TC4 and do a record and playback within the browser, things come to a haulting stop. Simple scrolling on the page takes 20-30 seconds before responding. Expanding / Collapsing nodes take even longer, in the event the application even returns.
I would like some advice or assistance in troubleshooting this, as we are on the brink of purchasing a few enterprise copies. Some information about my system:
P4 3.0 GHz
Windows XP Pro SP2
IE 6.0 SP2
Project MSAA settings has "*" turned on.
I mention the last one, for we usually have this on for other applications we have used TC4 on (VFP9 apps). I have a hunch that it has something to do with MSAA - but would like some offical help or opinions of others who have experineced this. It has become to the point that this would prevent us from purchasing this software, as it couldn't meet all of our needs.
Re: TC4 Locks up with IE?
The slowdown can be caused by any of the following:
1. Using MSAA for all windows makes TestComplete create much more wrapper objects on its side and decreases performance. Try disabling the "*" item and see if this helps.
2. A firewall or an antivirus is installed on your computer. Such applications often load their hook modules to the IE process to control scripts that are executed inside web pages. Since TestComplete also uses hooks to work with IE, there can be speed problems when recording. Try unloading such programs from memory and see if this helps.
