I'm just evaluating this tool and i'm planning a develop a keyword driven framework for .net applications, where the flow is based on the keywords from the file. For ex-if my entry in the file is like "Click, Button, btnOK" then, the script should seach for the button named 'btnOK' and click on it. So far for me, it looks possible, but the person should have good technical knowledge. I'm just looking for your ideas and views on this.
Another question - Is it possible to develop an UI to populate the input files. At the end, i want Business people to use this framework to add a test case. So, is it possible to provide a screen with all the controls available in the app. and its appropriate actions so that end users just go, select the control and type of action to do instead of writing the input file.
It is possible to implement the framework you described with TestComplete. For example, business people will enter high level tests in an Excel sheet and a TestComplete script will read the .xls file and ineterpret the commands. This issue was discussed several times on our public newsgroup, you can subscribe to it on this page: http://www.automatedqa.com/support/newsgroups.asp
Look for the 'keyword driven testing' on the entire NG. Specifically, you can read the following threads:
'Methodology' started by Richard H
'hooking into TC's recording generating own code' started by Elwin Wildschut
However, it is not easy to create such a framework. So you might be interested in Certify - it's a product that is integrated with TestComplete and possesses exactly the functionality you need. You can read more about it in the 'Certify and TestComplete' technical paper availalbe on our Web site: http://www.automatedqa.com/techpapers/index.asp
